Officials with the Indiana Department of Transportation say intermittent closures of the already restricted State Road 66 bridge spanning Oil Creek near Derby will begin on or after next Tuesday April 5th.

INDOT says contractors are set to begin removing the original beams of the bridge and replacing them with new ones as a part of an ongoing complete reconstruction that began last summer.

They say while this operation takes place, workers will need to conduct intermittent closures on the bridge while beams are removed and reset. Closures are expected to take no longer than 20 minutes at a time. Motorists will see the occasional closures during working hours only, up until the end of April.

Contractors have been working to completely replace the deck and supporting structure of this bridge, while also keeping one lane of traffic open. Traffic will still be controlled be a traffic signal during normal restrictions.

Flaggers will be utilized to control traffic during the closures. Loads larger than 13.5 feet wide are prohibited.

INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews. For construction updates and traffic alerts, follow INDOT on Facebook at facebook.com/INDOTVincennesDistrict and Twitter at twitter.com/INDOTSouthwest, or access INDOT’s TrafficWise website at indot.carsprogram.org.
