On February 19th at 3:13 a.m. Deputies were dispatched to Purdue Farm Road near County Road 475 N, Dubois, IN (near the area of Patoka Lake) to a report of a single vehicle accident.  Officers and First Responders arrived on scene and found a male driver deceased.   The driver of the vehicle was the only occupant.   The driver was identified as 17-year-old Chad Knies of 9647 E St Rd 164, Celestine, IN.  Knies had been operating a 1998 Chevrolet truck Westbound on Purdue Farm Rd just West of County Road 475 N when his vehicle left the roadway to the right in a curve.  The vehicle struck an embankment and overturned coming to rest on its top in a field about 50 feet off the roadway.

 

Knies was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected during the crash.   It is unknown at this time if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in the crash.   Toxicology results are pending.

 

The Dubois County Sheriffs Department was assisted on scene by Troopers from the Indiana State Police, Dubois First Responders, Memorial EMS, The Dubois County Coroner’s Office, and Uebelhor and Sons wrecker service.
