Recognizing that the development of technical skills as it relates to advanced technology and additive manufacturing, Kimball International recently provided the Forest Park High School Technology Department with a Spectrum Z510 full color 3D printer.

Kimball International’s Director of Research and Development, Greg Kuntz stated “While the speed of change and the efficiency that is gained through upgrades and new equipment is required in response to our furniture market demands, this equipment is still relevant in exposing students to the capabilities and skills needed to leverage additive manufacturing capabilities.

This 3D printer was a top of the line piece of equipment retailing around $45,000 originally with a current market value in the range of $6,000. Forest Park, through their recent announcement of expanding their technology center, will be contributing significantly to our workforce of the future by developing these in demand skills. We are proud to play a part in their efforts and look forward to the long term impact this can have.”

Jacob Berg, Forest Park PLTW instructor, stated “In expanding our focus of developing these type of technology skills in advanced manufacturing, having equipment that allow students to apply their learnings immediately by creating models in real time enhances the learning process significantly. We certainly value partners like Kimball International who are willing to work with us by providing equipment, access to mentors, guest speakers and other opportunities to bring real life challenges to our students in their educational processes.”

Kimball International has been active in advancing technology and vocational skills through programs such as the Career Advancement Program in conjunction with VUJC, Conexus Indiana, a program focused on growing and promoting advance manufacturing & logistics in Indiana and recently was nominated in the category of “Employer of the Year” at the 11th Annual IMPACT Award Luncheon sponsored by Ivy Tech Community College through Indiana INTERNnet.
