Robert “Bob” L. Obermeier, age 83, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 11:55 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at Brookside Village in Jasper, Indiana.

Bob was born in Jasper, Indiana on October 4, 1933, to Rupert and Philomena (Stalman) Obermeier, and he was the last living member of the family. He married Louella H. Woebkenberg on October 4, 1958, in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dale, Indiana.

Bob attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Jasper High School in 1951. He entered the United States Army and served in Japan and Korea from 1953-1955.

He was employed by the Hoosier Desk Co., Jasper Home Outfitters and retired from Farm Bureau Insurance, where he had been an agent for 21 years.

He was a member of the Jasper Lions Club for 50 years, where he held many offices and helped to create the Lions Radio Auction. He also worked on the original Lions Eye Bank and many other projects. He was given the highest award from the Lions Club’s International Foundation, which was the Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Services. He was also formerly a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and he was a member of the V.F.W. Post #673.

He enjoyed woodworking, caring for his walnut trees, and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Louella H. Obermeier, Jasper, IN, one son, Ron A. Obermeier (Mary), two daughters, Ann L. Obermeier, and Amy M. Feller (Mike), all of Newburgh, three grandchildren, Tori and Luke Obermeier, and Joshua Feller, and several nieces and nephews..

Preceding him in death are one sister, Marcella Miller, and one brother, John Sylvester Obermeier.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert “Bob” L. Obermeier will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Holy Family Parish will pray a rosary at 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home. The V.F.W. Post #673 will conduct military grave site rites.
