John McGovren has been named the 2017 Little Company of Mary (LCM) Volunteer of the Year Award recipient at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center. This award is named in honor of the Sisters of the Little Company of Mary, the sponsors of Memorial Hospital. This is the first year for this annual award that is based on outstanding performance reflecting Memorial Hospital’s mission statement and the core values of Respect for Human Dignity, Compassionate Caring, Stewardship, Quality and Justice. Other nominees for this year’s award included Anne Berger, Sue Eisenhut, Ashley Hale, Alan Huther, May Kleeman, Flo Martin, and Levi Nigg.

McGovren has been a volunteer at Memorial Hospital for three years. He has been described as always going the extra 10 miles and putting our patients first, staff second, and himself last.

McGovren resides in Jasper with his wife Susan, who is also a volunteer at Memorial Hospital. They have two children, Matt McGovren of New York and Shea Fleck of Indianapolis. His mother, the late Roberta McGovren, was also a volunteer at Memorial Hospital.
