Officials say the Dubois County Medication Spring Collection Day that was set to take place this past Saturday but was cancelled due to the county flood emergency will not be rescheduled this spring.

Of course long sustained heavy rains the persisted during the overnight hours of Friday night and into Saturday morning resulting as much as 9 inches of rain in parts of the county prompted the Dubois County Commissioners to issue the flood emergency thus forcing the cancellation.

Residents that do have medications they wish to dispose of are encouraged to take them to the Huntingburg Police Department’s 24/7 drop box for proper disposal, located at 503 E. 1st Street.

Collections that were to take place at the St. Henry and Celestine fire stations before events at those locations were called off.

However law enforcement officers and volunteers did collect at the Jasper post of the Indiana State Police where 300 pounds of medications and 40 pounds of recycling were received.

The sponsors of the event, Tri-CAP, the Dubois County Dubois County Sheriff’s Department, the Indiana State Police Jasper Post 34 and the Dubois County Solid Waste District plan on holding the next bi-annual collection day in the fall.
