Jasper Mayor Terry Seitz announced Tuesday the procession routes for the Thursday funeral of Jasper Chief of Police Mike Bennett.

Bennett passed away suddenly last Friday at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. A celebration of Life service is planned for 11 o’clock tomorrow morning in Redemption Christian Church.

Members of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department and area police departments will block or delay traffic along the procession route.

The Procession to Redemption Christian Church will take place from approximately 10:30 till 10:45 AM:

It will Depart Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel to Mill Street.

  • Head south on Mill Street to 6th Street
  • West on 6th around the Square to the “Y”
  • South from the ìY to the intersection US Highway 231 & State Road 162.
  • Then east on State Road 162 to Redemption church.

After the service the procession from Redemption to Fairview Cemetery that will take place from approximately 11:45 Am till noon will:

  • Depart Redemption to State Road 162
  • Head west on 162 to South Newton Street
  • North on South Newton pausing at the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
  • Continue north to 13th & Newton
  • And finally Left on 13th Street to Fairview Cemetery.
  • The intersection of 13th & Bartley Street will be closed until all vehicles have arrived at the gravesite.

Government entities, businesses and residents within the Jasper community are reminded that the mayor on Monday afternoon issued an executive order asking that all United States, State of Indiana as well as Jasper City Flags be lowered to half-staff tomorrow in memory of Bennett.

The order says flags are to be lowered only on Thursday from sunrise till 2 pm.

Once again, a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 am Thursday at Redemption Christian Church in Jasper with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery.

The American Legion Post #147 in Jasper in conjunction with the Jasper Police and Indiana State Police will conduct Military gravesite rites.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon till 8 o’clock this evening at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper.

Residents are also reminded that Jasper City Hall will be open Thursday.

However please note some offices within City Hall will be closed for Bennett’s funeral.

The Jasper Municipal Utility Office will remain open with normal business hours of 7:30 am till 4 pm.
