A fire of unknown origin broke out in a back corner of a rural Ferdinand home earlier today causing an undetermined amount of damage.

Around a quarter till 2 this afternoon crews with the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department responded to the report of a blaze at a home owned by Scott Uebelhor located along the 7800 hundred block of South County Road 75 East.

Ferdinand Fire Chief Dan Lindauer says when firefighters arrived they found flames coming from a corner of the home and once they made entry to the 2-story house they determined the fire had started in a back bedroom along with a small bathroom area.

Lindauer said firefighters were able to contain the blaze to that area of the home with flames coming out of a window and burning into the roof area.

He says the exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined and that an investigation will soon follow.

The entire home sustained heavy smoke and water damage but Lindauer believes it is repairable.

4 trucks and 15 men were on the scene more than 90 minutes along an ambulance from Memorial EMS who was on stand-by.
