County by County unemployment figures for the month of February have been released showing Dubois County holding steady with a 2.6 unemployment rate last month, unchanged from the month before.

As a result Dubois remained in second place as far as counties with the state’s lowest unemployment marks.

February numbers laid out Monday afternoon by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development have Dubois County one tenth of a percentage point behind leaders Elkhart and LaGrange counties who actually rose one tenth to 2 and a half percent.

Across the state Indiana’s unemployment rate edged lower to 3.2 percent in February, continuing a decline in the state that was seen starting in November.

The state’s unemployment rate decreased one-tenth of a percentage point from the January rate. The state’s unemployment rate remained below the national rate of 4.1 percent.

With the exception of October 2014, when it was equal to the national rate, the state’s unemployment rate has been below the U.S. rate for more than four years.

Indiana’s labor force had a net increase of nearly 2,500 over the previous month, which was a result of about 2,250 unemployed residents no longer seeking employment and a more than 4,700 increase in residents employed. Indiana’s total labor force is 3.3 million.

Locally as mentioned, Dubois County’s unemployment rate remained steady as the county continues their hold with the second lowest rate in the state.

Neighboring counties include Martin County at 2.9 percent, Daviess was at and even three percent. Warrick 3.2, Pike 3.7, Spencer 3.9, Perry County 4.2 percent, Orange 4.6 and Crawford County came in at 5.4 percent, the fourth highest in the state.
