Late Friday night, Orange County 911 Dispatch received a phone call regarding an accidental gunshot wound to a male victim who was camping with friends at the Shirley Creek camp grounds.

Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and located Daniel Barrett Allbright, 21, French Lick who had one gunshot wound to the head.

The Orange County Coroner pronounced Allbright deceased at the scene.

Indiana State Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators along with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were able to determine that a 19 year old French Lick man believed he heard something in the woods and unholstered his handgun and pointed it into the woods. While attempting to holster his weapon the suspect discharged one round striking Allbright in the back of the head.

Indiana State Police and Orange County Sheriff’s Department Investigators do not believe foul play is a factor in this incident.

Allbright’s autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Lawrence County.

Circumstances regarding the investigation will be presented to the Orange County Prosecutors Office for review.
