Richard E. Dell, age 76 of Dubois, Indiana,  passed away at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at  Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by his wife and children.

Richard was born in Saline, Michigan, on January 29, 1942, to Lloyd C. and Luella E. (Burkhardt) Dell. He married Barbara Ann Zehr on November 24, 1966, in the Norton Air Force Base Chapel in San Bernardino, California.

Richard was a Untied States Navy Veteran, serving for 20 years.  During that time he rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  He served aboard five ships, including the aircraft carrier JFK, during the Vietnam War Era.

After retirement from the Navy, he worked at Jasper Electric Motors and Jasper Engines.

His hobbies included woodworking, crafting pens and pencils, and reading.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Dell, Dubois, IN, two children, Kristina (Ronald) Dell Lewis, Beaufort, SC, Timothy D. (Mary Melissa) Dell, Greensboro, NC, one granddaughter,  Emily Smith, and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death is one sister, Lola Dell.

A memorial service will be held in November at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Haysville, Indiana, where he served on the church council and repaired handbells.  Interment will follow in the St. Peter’s UCC Cemetery in Dubois, IN.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
