Part of a duplex is heavily damaged after a kitchen fire.

Firefighters were called to a duplex on 425 West 6th street on Monday afternoon for a report of smoking coming out if the building.

Jasper Volunteer Chief Kenny Hochgesang says when they arrived, heavy smoke was coming out of the second floor.

After putting the fire out, Hochgesang had a look around and said something seemed a little off.

The fire chief estimates damages to cost around $50,000.

Hochgesang says the west side of the duplex was not damaged. No injuries were reported.
