Northeast Dubois may be ready for big changes in the next year, including some possible name changes.

The Northeast Dubois School Board met for their monthly board meeting last night. Many different business topics were discussed.

Superintendent William Hochesang made it known that a changing of the school names is possible. The new suggested names are Northeast Dubois Elementary, Northeast Dubois Intermediate, and Northeast Dubois Junior/Senior High. This is open for discussion to the public as the board is wanting feedback. This was tabled for the next school board meeting.

Also, VPS Construction shared information regarding project bids and recommendations.

Bids were opened on October 8th, 2019 from different bids towards construction towards the high school. Seufert Construction was the lowest bidder. Seufert Construction was awarded the bid. Seven alternates were named and outlined, including based bids. The total amount of the renovation is $3,865,480.00.

Alternates include a renovation to create:

  • two varsity locker rooms,
  • a renovation to create four other locker rooms,
  • a renovation of the High School Special Education Rooms,
  • a renovation of the lobby to construct two new offices,
  • the renovation of High School corridors to expanded women’s restrooms, two group study rooms, a staff workroom, replacement lockers
  • the creation of a storm-safe middle school corridor.

The board accepted the bid from Seufert Construction. Construction will start as soon as possible.

Mr. William Hochesang recommended that a position of half time Assistant Principal for the 2020-2021 school year be created. This was approved.

Mrs. Tara Rasche recommended that the board hires Blake Zeigler as a Special Education Assistant at the Dubois Elementary School. This was approved.

The School Improvement Plan for the 2019-2020 School Year was approved.

Several field trips were approved. The Community Leaders and Education Professions class on a field trip to Conseco Field House in Indianapolis from November 8th and 9th were approved. Also, the Anatomy/Physiology class was approved to go on a field trip to visit Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel in Illinois.

Also, Mr. Hochegsang recommended that Stephanie Faulk-Tillberry be hired as a Corporation Bus Driver to replace Jeff Wigand, who is resigning. This was approved.

The Teacher Contract Agreement for the year of 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 was approved.

John Siebert says that he has plans to step down from the board in December. Seifert has been on the board for 12 years.
