Hundreds of residents braved Saturday’s rainy weather to properly dispose of unwanted medications.

Dubois County’s Bi-Annual Medication Collection Day is part of the DEA’s national event, allowing residents to safely dispose of unused, old, and expired medication.

The Birdseye and Ireland Fire Departments, and Indiana State Police Jasper Post worked together to collect hundreds of unwanted medications.

In total, Tri-Cap RSVP Director, Becky Beckman, says the 4-hour event brought in 402 pounds of unused medications for proper disposal.

Beckman explains how important this event is for the community.

Each item safely disposed of reduces contaminating the water system, reducing the potential for accidental overdoses, and the ingestion of outdated or incorrect medications.

Another collection day will be scheduled for the spring of 2020. Residents can also safely dispose of medications 24/7 at the Jasper City Police and Huntingburg Police Department drop boxes.
