Southeast Dubois County Schools are getting a new Resource Officer.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office made the announcement yesterday.

Deputy John Smith starts working with schools in the corporation, including Forest Park Junior/Senior High, Cedar Crest Intermediate, Ferdinand Elementary, and Pine Ridge Elementary on January 1st.

The Otwell native graduated from Vincennes University with an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement.

Smith’s law enforcement career began in July 2010 with the Ferdinand Police Department.

He later was hired by the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office and sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff in November of 2013.

Smith now lives in Jasper with his wife and two kids.
