No injuries are reported after the Old Swiss Plywood building in Tell City caught fire this afternoon.

Tell City Police say reports of the fire came in around 11 am.

Fire crews, emergency medical services, and police departments from the surrounding counties joined forces to fight the blaze.

Police say the fire initially started in the far south end of the building but quickly became widespread.

The Tell City Police Assistant Chief and Public Information Officer, Roger Smith, tells us the building was built back in the 1800s and owned by the Tell City Port Authority at the time of the fire. Smith says the building was kept busy with softball practices and club meetings.

Before the fire started, Smith says they were able to save a few things.

As firefighters fought the blaze, residents stepped up and brought bottled water to keep firefighters hydrated.

Smith says nobody was inside at the time.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
