One man is dead and another is in jail after a shooting in Martin County.

Martin County Sheriff Deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a home on 827 Main Street in Shoals on Monday.

When officers arrived, they found a man, identified as 39-year-old Jeremi Jones of Shoals, with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation into the shooting indicates an altercation had taken place at the residence which led to shots being fired.

22-year-old Kestin L. Jones of Loogootee was immediately taken into custody and initially charged with murder and incarcerated in the Martin County Jail.

There is no threat to the public and no other information is being released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.

Agencies assisting at the scene were the Martin County Sherriff’s Department, Shoals Police Department, Martin County Coroner and Martin County EMS.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
