Officials in Perry County have now instituted a burn band for the county until further notice. This burn ban is due to the dry and extremely dangerous conditions currently existing in the Southern Indiana area.

Many counties are already on a burn ban including Daviess and Martin Counties and it was announced on Thursday morning that while Dubois County isn’t on a burn ban yet that could change at any minute as conditions continue to deteriorate to a dangerous level.

This burn ban means that no opening burning is currently allowed in Perry County. This includes:

  1. Uncontained campfires and other uncontained recreational fires
  2. Any fire in an outdoor location where the fuel being burned is not completely contained in an incinerator or approved fire pit with the exception of propane or charcoal grills
  3. The burning of debris such as timber vegetation including debris from building construction

Campfires in an approved fire pit or ring are allowed.

Again this burn ban is in place until further notice.
