Douglas W. Eckstein, age 71, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 12:34 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.

Doug was born in Jasper, Indiana, on August 5, 1953, to Charles T. and Janice L. (Smith) Eckstein.  He married Shelley Ann Vonderheide on November 12, 1977, at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Doug was a 1971 graduate from Jasper High School.

He was a forklift operator for Greif Brothers Corporation. In his later years, he worked part-time at Buffalo Trace Golf Course.

Doug was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed attending baseball games, golfing, crossword puzzles, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shelley Eckstein, Jasper; son, Kirk and (Kelli Sergesketter) Eckstein, Louisville, sister, Debra Eckstein and (companion Mike Greive), Jasper, and grandson, Leo Eckstein.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Douglas W. Eckstein will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, Indiana, with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, at the Becher-Kluesner downtown chapel.
