A quiet neighborhood near Haubstadt, Indiana, was the scene of a tragic shooting on the evening of May 29, 2025. At approximately 8:31 p.m., Gibson County Central Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the 12000 block of South Scottsdale Drive.

Responding swiftly, multiple law enforcement agencies arrived at the residence. Sergeant Loren Barchett of the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office was met at the front door by a witness who directed him to the suspect’s last known location. Sgt. Barchett located and apprehended the suspect, identified as 77-year-old Patrick John Waite of Haubstadt, without incident.

A thorough search of the home led to the discovery of three deceased individuals and a fourth person critically injured. Additionally, four other individuals were found inside the residence unharmed. Emergency medical personnel from the Gibson County Ambulance Service and the Haubstadt Fire Department provided immediate care to the injured victim, who was subsequently airlifted to a regional hospital for further treatment.

Waite was transported to the Gibson County Jail and is currently being held without bond on a murder charge. The investigation is ongoing, with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Indiana State Police, Princeton Police Department, Haubstadt Police Department, Fort Branch Police Department, Owensville Police Department, Haubstadt Fire Department, Gibson County Ambulance Service, and the Gibson County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or any potential motives for the shooting.
