Tell City High School senior Clara Foertsch has been selected as the first recipient of the Sgt. Heather J. Glenn Memorial Scholarship, an award created to honor the life and legacy of the late Tell City Police Sergeant Heather Glenn. The scholarship supports Perry County high school seniors who plan to pursue higher education in criminal justice, with a focus on encouraging professionalism in the field, particularly among women entering law enforcement.

Foertsch will attend the University of Evansville, where she plans to major in criminal justice and computer science. Her long-term goal is to serve on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a specialized unit that investigates online exploitation.

Sergeant Heather J. Glenn served with the Tell City Police Department for two decades before she was killed in the line of duty on July 3, 2023. The incident occurred at Perry County Memorial Hospital while she was attempting to arrest a suspect in a domestic violence case. Glenn was fatally shot during the confrontation. Her actions that day were remembered as courageous and selfless.

Born in 1976, Heather Glenn graduated from Tell City High School in 1994 and went on to earn a criminal justice degree from Vincennes University. Known for her leadership and mentorship, she played a vital role in training new officers and helping launch youth engagement programs like the Tell City Youth Police Academy.

The scholarship established in her name continues her mission of inspiring future generations to serve with integrity and compassion. Clara Foertsch’s selection reflects those same values and ideals.
