The Warrick Humane Society (WHS) in Newburgh, Indiana, is preparing to break ground on a new, state-of-the-art animal shelter, marking a significant milestone in its mission to provide a safe haven for homeless pets. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, at 1:00 p.m.
Established in 1983, WHS has long been a cornerstone in the community, operating as a no-kill shelter dedicated to rescuing and rehoming animals in need. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services to include low-cost veterinary clinics and the Home Away Pet Spa, a grooming and boarding facility whose proceeds support shelter operations.
The new shelter project, aptly named “Building Hope,” is a three-phase initiative aimed at enhancing the facility’s capacity and services.
- Phase I: Digging In involves finalizing site work plans and commencing construction.
- Phase II: Building Hope will see the foundation poured and the structure taking shape.
- Phase III: Welcome Home focuses on interior finishing, kennel installation, and furnishings, culminating in a grand opening.
A significant addition to the new facility is the planned Quarantine Annex, designed to better serve the most vulnerable animals by providing multiple quarantine rooms with independent ventilation systems.
To date, WHS has successfully raised two-thirds of the $1.25 million construction cost, thanks to generous donations and fundraising efforts. The organization continues to seek community support to reach its fundraising goal, emphasizing that every contribution, regardless of size, plays a vital role in bringing this vision to life.
Community members interested in supporting the project can make donations online through the WHS website.
