Participants gather for the 2024 Winter Chant workshop led by Br. John Glasenapp. This workshop covered Chant Notation and Interpretation. Here, they are participating in School Rehearsal, and studying manuscripts.

The Saint Meinrad Institute for Sacred Music in St. Meinrad, Indiana, will host its Summer Chant Workshop: Notation and Interpretation from Monday, July 21 through Friday, July 25, 2025.

Led by Dr. Rosemary Heredos and Br. Joel Blaize, OSB, the workshop is designed for liturgical music directors and parish singers with a basic musical background. Participants will study chant notation, semiological interpretation, and the use of church modes, exploring how chant melodies are constructed and their spiritual significance.

The week-long program includes daily rehearsals and instructional sessions focused on reading early chant sources and refining performance techniques unique to sacred chant.

The registration fee is $900 for individuals and $1,050 for double occupancy, including lodging and meals. A $300 commuter rate is also available. Participants can arrive early on Sunday, July 20, for optional private instruction. Two one-hour private lessons with Dr. Heredos are available for an additional $300, or two half-hour sessions for $250. These packages include extra meals and lodging.

The workshop may also be taken for academic credit through the Saint Meinrad School of Theology.
