On Monday evening, August 4, 2025, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a collision at the intersection of State Road 68 and County Road 250 East, just outside Haubstadt, Indiana. Responders from Gibson County law enforcement, Gibson County Ambulance Service, and Haubstadt Fire Department were dispatched immediately.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel performed lifesaving efforts on one of the drivers, but the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Preliminary investigations by Gibson County officials indicate that a Buick LaCrosse approached the intersection on County Road 250 East and failed to observe the stop sign, entering the path of an oncoming white Freightliner semi‑truck traveling on State Road 68. The semi‑truck was unable to avoid impact and struck the Buick at a right angle.

The driver of the Freightliner was transported to a nearby hospital in accordance with standard protocol for fatal collisions so that a blood sample could be collected and submitted to state authorities for analysis.

Gibson County Coroner Barrett Doyle is overseeing the death investigation, with an autopsy to be arranged in the coming days.
