Anton “Tony” E. Merder, age 80, of Jasper, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at his home.

He was born on May 4, 1945, in Jasper, to parents Wilfred and Catherine (Knust) Merder. Tony married Marlene (Brosmer) Merder on June 29, 1963, and she preceded him in death on October 29, 2015.

Tony retired after a 40-year career as a semi-truck driver for Kimball International. He enjoyed his grandchildren, selling produce, and socializing with his many friends. He could always be found enjoying a cigar.

Survivors include daughters Danielle Schnell and husband Lee of Celestine, and Dana Berger and husband Tim of Jasper; sons Dean Merder and wife Donna of Santa Claus, and Dwain Merder of Jasper; brothers Greg Merder, Mark Merder, and John Merder, al of Jasper; sisters Jane Mosby of Jasper and Brenda Huitron of California; grandchildren – Devon Merder (Taylor), Delany Smith (Caleb), Shelby Farwig (Augie), Carly Merder (Luke), Riley Merder, Colten Berger, Chloe Billa (Nate), Corbyn, Maddox, Raynie, and Kinley Schnell and great grandchildren – Mya, Walker, Ivy, Wyatt, Dawsyn, Zuri, and Thea.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and siblings Martha Esmeier, Carol Kempf, and Steven Merder.

There will be a memorial mass at 2:00pm EST. on Friday, February 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Parish of Jasper. Visitation will be from 11:00am until the service time at 2:00pm EST. Father John Brosmer will officiate, and burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
