The Dubois County Historical Society is inviting the public to step back in time during a special three-day event celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
“Dubois 2026: A Revolutionary Rendezvous, Circa 1776” is scheduled for April 10 through April 12 at Ferdinand State Forest. The event commemorates the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States with a living history experience designed for all ages.
The free event will feature battlefield reenactments, weapons demonstrations, and historical interpretations showcasing life during the Revolutionary War era. Visitors can explore a pioneer encampment, watch skilled tradespeople like blacksmiths and weavers at work, and learn about early American survival techniques and daily life.
Additional highlights include Native American historical presentations, agricultural demonstrations, and hands-on activities for children such as crafting cornhusk dolls, painting wooden toys, and playing traditional 18th-century games. Live music and storytelling will also be part of the experience.
Food vendors will be on-site offering a variety of options, while some vendors will sell handcrafted goods similar to those found during the territorial period.
Event hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. While local schools are expected to attend on Friday, the public is welcome all three days.
The event is supported by multiple community partners and sponsors, with organizers aiming to provide an engaging and educational way to celebrate the nation’s milestone anniversary.
