A three vehicle accident north of Huntingburg Monday evening claimed the life of a Huntingburg man.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says several witnesses reported at 7 o’clock last night they saw an SUV driven by 39-year old Sameer Metha of Huntingburg headed southbound on US 231 and say as the SUV crossed a bridge, it hit a patch of ice causing the vehicle to loss traction and control.

Deputies say the SUV collided head on with a northbound pickup driven by 36-year old Jeremy Brewer of Jasper.  Meanwhile a third vehicle driven by Michael Carie of Jasper was also headed northbound and rear ended Brewer’s pickup. Members of the Jasper Fire Department were called to the scene to extricate all three drivers from their vehicles.

Injuries sustained by Metha proved to be fatal. Brewer suffered a leg injury and was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment. Carie was not hurt in the accident. All three vehicles were a total loss. No charges were filed.

Authorities believe slick road conditions caused by the weather were a contributing factor in the accident.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Huntingburg Police,  Memorial Hospital EMS, Jasper First Responders and the Jasper Fire Department.
