A longtime member of The Greater Jasper Consolidated School Board is interested in serving another term.
Ken Schnaus is seeking re-election to the board representing District 1.
He says when first elected in 2006, the corporation had very little cash in its operating fund. Schnaus says through his leadership of strong fiscal responsibility and teamwork between the board and the administration, the corporation has been able to improve its cash reserves to a comfortable and safe balance of close to 10 percent of its annual operating expenses. Schnaus noted that during the last 12 years he has served there has been a number of raises given to the corporation’s teachers, support staff, and administrators.
Ireland Elementary School added classrooms as well as various support areas. He points out that the corporation is currently building a new consolidated elementary school. Most of the school’s buildings have had major improvements and or maintenance including a new playing service at the football stadium and security upgrades at all of the buildings in the corporation. He added these improvements have been made without raising taxes.
Schnaus is a vice president at Springs Valley Bank and Trust Company where he works in the commercial relationship department. Schnaus and his wife Marilyn have three children and four grandchildren.
