Arning told police both were stopped at the red traffic light at 36th when his vehicle was struck from behind by Cates’ SUV. Cates told officers that he had been stopped behind Arning and thought that Arning’s vehicle had taken off on a green light therefore he too had also began to accelerate and struck the back of Arning.

Arning told police the light turned green after the collision.

Police say Arning complained of back & neck pain but refused EMS.
