A Fund has been established for an Ireland woman who was accidentally shot in her vehicle while it was stationed in the parking of an Evansville store Thanksgiving evening.
The fund set up on gofundme.com by one of 45-year old Stacey Craven’s five children is intended as a campaign to raise money to help pay for monthly bills, food, gas, kids activities and expenses as well as medical bills, and to help give Craven a foundation to stand on when she recovers.
A post by the family member on the website notes She’ll want to get to work as soon as possible but will need her rest. They say Stacey can rest well knowing her kids are ok and able to continue life as normal.
Evansville Police say at around 9:40 Thursday night Craven and her 15-year-old son where sitting in their van outside the Target store on the city’s east side when her son removed a gun from under a seat.
Police say the 15-year old pulled the trigger because he thought the gun had an external safety that would prevent the weapon from firing. However, the gun had a trigger assembly safety and went off when he pulled the trigger.
Police say Craven was shot in the back.
She was taken to St Mary’s Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Again police say the incident looks to be an accident and no charges have been filed.
More than 22-hundred of the 5-thousand dollar goal has been raised thus far.
Any excess money will be donated to Stop Handgun Violence. A non-profit using effective education to prevent firearm related accidents such as this.
