A Jasper man was placed under arrest Friday afternoon on a charge of theft after he was seen taking items from a construction site in Huntingburg.

Around 4 pm Friday Indiana State Police were conducting operations near Anya Court and 22nd Street in Hardin MugHuntingburg when a trooper allegedly observed 52-year old Phillip Hardin of Jasper take items from a construction site at that location. One of the items was a large Dynaglo Pro kerosene-powered space heater that had Todd Kerstein’s Homes printed on it.

Police say Hardin put items in his pickup and left the scene before being stopped by police.

During the traffic stop, a trooper said two workers from a drywall company approached and said they had items stolen from a separate, nearby construction site. Those items included a power cable and four-way power outlet. The cable and power outlet, which were covered in drywall dust were found in the tool box of Hardin’s truck.

Authorities booked Hardin into the county security on a Misdemeanor count of theft.
