Anastasia Vaal, 94, of St. Meinrad, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Anastasia was born, April 19, 1921, in St. Meinrad to Joseph and Hedwig (Moog) Wiederkehr. She married Urvin H. Vaal on September 30, 1941, in St. Meinrad Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on June 9, 2012.

Anastasia was a homemaker who spent much of her life working on the family farm. She was a member of St. Meinrad Parish and its St. Elizabeth’s Sodality. She enjoyed gardening and quilting but most of all spending time with her grandkids.

Anastasia is survived by three sons, Delbert Vaal, Charles (Susan) Vaal and Marvin (Mary Jo) Vaal all of St. Meinrad; four daughters, Margie (Al) Rothgerber of Ferdinand, Eileen (Richard) Emerson of Branchville, Diana (Jim) Gogel of St. Meinrad and Brenda (Jerry) Wheatley of Huntingburg; one sister, Josepha Sitzman of Bristow; one brother, Joseph Wiederkehr of St. Meinrad; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Anastasia was preceded in death by her husband, Urvin Vaal; two sisters, Agatha Fette and Mary Miller; one brother, Francis Wiederkehr; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Vaal.

Funeral services will be Wednesday January 13th, at 10:00 AM CDT in St. Meinrad Catholic Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8:00 PM CDT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and Wednesday from 9:00 AM CDT until time of services at the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
