Forest Park High School will have a new leader next school year.

During thier regular meeting at Pine Ridge Elementary School last night the Southeast Dubois County School Board accepted the retirement of Forest Junior-Senior High School Principal Jim Mehling.

The 56-year old Mehling is a 1977 Graduate of Forest Park. He earned a bachelors degree in Mathematic Education from Indiana State University in December of 1980 and later his administrative certificates from ISU and Indiana University Southeast.

Mehling immediately returned to his alma mater where he taught math and was an assistant coach for a variety of sports including serving 18 years as the head coach of the Ranger Baseball Program. As a junior at Forest Park he helped lead the Ranger baseball team to the 1976 final four.

Mehling became the assistant principal at Forest Park in 2004 and was named principal in 2013 replacing the retiring Jeff Jesse.

Mehling says his 35 year career in education has been to say the least, rewarding and special.

Mehling says he has no immediate plans for his retirement other than to relocate to Indianapolis to spend more time with his wife and family. He is married to Lt. Governor Sue Ellesperman they are the parents of 4 grown daughters.

Once again Mehling’s retirement was accepted by the Southeast Dubois Board last night.

Southeast Superintendent Rick Allen says Mehling has been a tremendous asset to the corporation.

The Southeast Dubois board will soon go to work to name a replacement for Mehling.  His retirement will take effect June 30th.
