Virginia Lavon Propes, age 76, of Jasper, passed away at 3:10 a.m. (Central time), on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at her daughter’s home in Saint Meinrad, Indiana.

Virginia Lavon Propes Obituary Photo583_edited-1            She was born May 6, 1939, in Mud Lick, Kentucky to Samuel and Leona (Strode) Huff.  Lavon retired from the Postal Service where she worked as a Relief Postmaster at the Eckerty Post Office.  She was a member of the Singing Seniors at the Arnold Habig Senior Center in Jasper, the Victory Extension Homemakers Club, the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels, and was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #447 in Louisville.  Lavon enjoyed playing bingo and cards, cooking for her family, and volunteering at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.  She was preceded in death by:  her parents; her husband, Ralph Mitchell Propes, Sr., who died December 31, 2000; two sisters, Ruby Jennings and Joyce Toby; and one brother, Mitchell Huff.

She is survived by:

Ralph Mitchell (son-in-law, Roberto Campos) Propes, Jr. of Rochester, New York;

Six brothers,

David Huff of Louisville, Kentucky,

Eddie Huff of Birdseye, Indiana,

Jim Huff of Bloomington, Indiana,

Jerry Huff of Birdseye, Indiana,

Clyde Huff of Birdseye, Indiana,

and two sisters,

Priscilla Eastridge of Taswell, Indiana,

Glenda Sanders of Palmyra, Indiana.

Funeral services for Virginia Lavon Propes will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.S.T., onSaturday, March 5, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at the Eckerty Cemetery in Eckerty, Indiana.  Her nephew, Ricky Huff, will officiate at the service.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 4:00-8:00 p.m., E.S.T., on Friday.  Memorial services will be held by the Victory Extension Homemakers Club at 5:00 p.m. and the Birdseye Order of the Eastern Star at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions can be made to The Eckerty Cemetery Association or Heart to Heart Hospice.  Condolences may be shared online at:  www.nassandson.com.
