With the start of Holiday World’s new season on Saturday, park guests will recognize both “something old” and “something new” during their visit.

Park President Matt Eckert says with last year’s addition of Thunderbird, the nation’s only launched wing coaster, Holiday World took a huge leap forward. Eckert says this year, park officials want to take time to celebrate their history as well, by displaying their first ride and enhancing one of the park’s classic wooden coasters.”

Among what’s new at Holiday World this year is:

  • The new 70th Birthday Plaza, that will showcase the park’s seven decades with nostalgic photos, maps, and brochures.
  • The return of the park’s first ride, The Freedom Train, on display in the 70th Birthday Plaza, a huge Memories Mosaic, with 7,000 crowd sourced photos taken at the park during its 70 years.
  • The Legend “reborn,” with more than $2 million in track improvements to the wooden roller coaster, plus the addition of a new “double-down” feature to further enhance the ride experience. The coaster will open May 7th.In Splashin’ Safari, the water park’s filters now utilize sand featuring an anti-microbial coating; this is the nation’s first large-scale roll-out of Mystic Blue Sand.
  • And, Holiday World Podcasts, with bi-weekly news and musings from two fourth-generation owners, the park’s president and guests.

Holiday World begins its 70th season tomorrow. Splashin’ Safari’s opening day is May 12th.
