Mae E. Atkins, age 97, of Birdseye, passed away at 9:20 a.m., on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand.

Mae Atkins Obituary Photo621_edited-1She was born May 1, 1918, in Birdseye, Indiana to Tom and Lena (Holzbog) Oxley. She married Warner G. Atkins on June 1, 1935, in Birdseye. Mae was a homemaker; and was a member of the Birdseye Order of the Eastern Star #590 and Wickliffe United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Warner G. Atkins, who died on February 22, 1993; one son, Jack Atkins; four brothers, Sam, Robert, Everett and Thurman Oxley; and one sister, Hazel Leonard.

She is survived by:

One son and daughter-in-law,
Larry (Linda) Atkins of Birdseye, Ind.;
One daughter,
Doris Abrams of Georgetown, Ind.;
Daughter-in-law,
Mary Lee Atkins of Birdseye, Ind.;
One sister,
Ruth Lohn of Birdseye, Ind.;
by (14) grandchildren, (16) great grandchildren, and (11) great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mae E. Atkins will be held at 2:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg with burial to follow at Wickliffe Cemetery in Wickliffe, Indiana. The Reverend Joe Hollen will officiate at the service and the Birdseye Order of the Eastern Star will participate by conducting memorial rites.

Friends may call for visitation at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m., E.D.T., on Thursday, the day of the funeral.
