A large crowd braved potential rainy conditions Saturday morning as they witnessed the annual Holy Trinity Catholic School Cardboard Regatta along the banks of the Patoka River at the Dave Buehler Plaza in Jasper.
Coordinator, Kerri Mehringer, says more corporate sponsors and entries in general took part this year than in years past. Mehringer says the regatta is a community event with a strong purpose.
The Community Race Winner was the Ghost team consisting of Holy Trinity students- Wyatt Troutman, Ben Schuetter, Mitchell Werner, Mathew Sternberg, Jax Bower and Carter Mundy.
The Corporate Race Winner was the Ruxer Ford/Jasper Engines and Transmissions team represented by- Gary Weinzapfel, Steve Weinzapfel, Chris Fleck, and Jake Bower.

- Engineering Spectacle: Ruxer Ford/Jasper Engines
- Best Theme: Ride Tech/SVBT
- Artistic Masterpiece: Chaos
- Spirit Awared: The Last Minute (Lucas Mehringer)
- And Best Dressed Crew: Stens Corporation
Various other community and corporate organization also took part in the 2016 edition of the race.
Gary Weinzapfel from the Ruxer Ford Jasper Engine team says participating as a company holds an impact serving the Jasper community.
The Ruxer Ford/ Jasper Engine team has been participating since the beginning of the regatta and have won 4 times and placed 2nd twice.
The theme for their boat this year was a Vietnam river-gun boat which they spent over 150 hours constructing as time allowed beginning back in June.
There was a great variety of creativity in this year’s event from a paddle boat blue-dragon from team CHAOS, to a Batman Boat from Kimball Electronics, and many more.
