A Petersburg man was injured when the semi he was driving collided with a train near Winslow Tuesday afternoon.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department says just before 2 pm Tuesday, deputies responded to vehicle versus train accident on State Road 61 just North of Winslow near County Road 150.

A preliminary investigation by authorities shows a 2012 Mack Semi owned by C & M Giant Tire and driven by Christopher McDonald of Petersburg, struck the 2nd engine of the train.

Deputies say McDonald was driving southbound on highway 61 as the Norfolk southern train was heading West.

They say after the impact, McDonald was able to exit the semi on his own.  He was then taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment of his injuries.

Authorities say their investigation is continuing.
