During the Labor Day weekend, on Saturday the Jasper’s Fifth Annual Heartland Half Marathon was in full action with participants ready for the race. New this year was the monetary awards for 1st – 3rd place for both Men & Women in the Half Marathon race. 1st place received $500, 2nd place $250, & 3rd place $100.
The 1st place male participant was Charles Mabwoga with a time of 1:06:40 and 1st place female participant was Maria Gramelspacher with time of 1:24:35 . Both were for the Half Marathon category. Number of total finishers were 185 with average time at 2:11 : 08.
For the 5K Run and Walk category 1st place for male participants went to Seth Eckert with the time of 19:46. 1st place for female participants is Tori Hemmerlein with a time of 22:38.
Proceeds from Heartland Half Marathon, 5K, and Team Challenge will be given to the Phillip R. Dawkins Heart & Vascular Center to be utilized for new integrative medicine services provided to patients at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center.
Proceeds from the Kids Fun Run and Festival will benefit Girls on the Run Serving Dubois County.
