In a press release on Wednesday the Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced that it is awarding a $1.4 million grant to the city of Jasper, IN. The grant is for improvements needed in the water infrastructure that will be necessary in the expansion of a major local manufacturer.

The United State Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker stated “Ensuring that business and industry have the tools they need to grow and thrive is key to job creation and economic growth.”

The EDA is an agency within the U.S. Department of Commerce and makes investments in economically distressed communities to maintain and create job growth, along with securing long-term sustainable economic growth.

The EDA investment in Jasper will strengthen the economy by replacing the the main trunk line beneath U.S. Highway 231 and improve water pressure that will be supportive of the automotive and equipment manufacturers of the region. The new improvements will aid in attracting new private investments into the area. According to the grantee estimates the project will create 60 jobs and more than 6 million in private investment.
