Dorothy A. Beckman, 85 of Mariah Hill, In. passed away Saturday October 1st in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville. She was born in Perry County on November 1, 1930 to Oliver & Clara (Peters) Hagedorn. She married Donald M. Beckman on July 24, 1954 in St. Marks, In. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1996. She then married Carl Waninger on February 15, 1997 in St. John Chyrsostom Catholic Church in New Boston. He also preceded her in death on August 22, 2011.

Dorothy was a former Spencer County Auditor from 1988 to 1995. She was a member of St. Francis Of Assisi, Mary Help Of Christians Parish in Mariah Hill and it’s ladies sodality. She was a member of St. Meinrad Legion Post 366 Auxillary & past president, Board member of the Spencer County Community Foundation, She was the democratic vice chair of the Harrison Township precinct committee. She was awarded the Sagamore Of the Wabash honor on December 29, 2004. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling, gardening, politics, bird watching, and being with family & friends.

Survivors include, 7 daughters, Jane Canen of Santa Claus, Charlotte (Jeff) Ludlow of Greensburg, Phyllis (Leroy) Oeding of Mariah Hill, Becky (Bernie) Buening of Huntingburg, Sara (Neil) Arnold of Mariah Hill, Madonna (Mike) Kline of Dale, & Tina (Russell) Hassfurther of Ferdinand. 1 son, Bruce Beckman of Jasper. 20 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. 2 brothers, Joe (Judy) Hagedorn of Perry County, & John (Clara) Hagedorn of Fort Branch. 1 sister, Louise Mattingly of Zionsville. She was preceded in death by a grandchild, Abby Beckman, 1 brother, Edward Hagedorn and 1 sister, Irene Gelarden.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT Wednesday October 5th in St. Francis Of Assisi, Mary Help Of Christians Church in Mariah Hill, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 to 8:00 PM CDT Tuesday & from 7:00 to 9:30 AM CDT Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Memorial contributions may be made to Spencer County Council On Ageing.
