A Huntingburg woman was placed under arrest early this morning on a pair of charges including neglect of a dependent after she was accused of leaving an infant in a car unattended during this morning’s cold weather conditions.
Around 1:30 this morning Jasper Police were called to a home located along the 4100 block of Ruby Court to the report of a suspicious vehicle in the area.
Police were informed by a caller that he saw two individuals exit the vehicle and walk through several backyards.
When police arrived they found the vehicle with an infant inside unattended. Police say the vehicle was not running during very cold conditions.
Authorities secured the young child in a police cruiser for his safety.
While searching for the vehicle’s owner, officers located two subjects that fled on foot upon the officer’s request to stop. One of the subjects, 18-year old Justice Mundy of Huntingburg was shortly apprehended.
The second person has been identified and a warrant for their arrest has been issued.
Police determined that the infant was left unattended inside the non-running vehicle for several minutes and was taken into the care of Child Protective Services.
They also say there were several items that authorities would like to identify. They ask that if anyone has any missing items, please contact Jasper Police as soon as possible to identify the property and see if your property has been recovered.
In the meantime Mundy was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center on a Level 6 Felony count of Neglect of a Dependent and a Class A Misdemeanor count of Resisting Law Enforcement.
The Jasper Police Department thanks the public for the information that lead to Mundy’s apprehension and subsequently preventing a further crime in the process.
