On April 28th 2017, Jasper Police Department Officers were contacted about a Burglary that had occurred at a residence in the 1700 block of Jackson St. Officers learned that a stolen credit card was recently used at the RedBox Kiosk. Through investigation, a person of interest was obtained but could not be located immediately. In the early morning hours of April 29th 2017, a Dubois County Deputy conducted an unrelated traffic stop on a vehicle.

During the traffic stop the Deputy made an arrest on JPD’s “Person of Interest” Carlos A Hernandez Castaneda for possession of marijuana. Castaneda was booked into the Dubois County Security Center. During book-in jail staff located bank cards, driver’s license, and gift cards all belonging to the victim of the burglary. During an interview with Mr. Castaneda he advised the RedBox video game may be in his hotel room. Officers located the fraudulently obtained video game along with 1 gram of Methamphetamine inside Castaneda’s hotel room.

Mr. Castaneda will now be charged with 3 Level 6 felonies of Theft, Fraud and Possession of Methamphetamine and 1 Level 4 Felony count of Burglary of a Dwelling.
