A Farming accident in a rural area east of Jasper Tuesday afternoon took the life of a elderly Celestine man.

Around a quarter till 1 pm yesterday deputies with the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department responded to a 911 call in reference to a male down from a tractor accident.

Deputies say the accident took place along the 3600 block of Block of Schnellville Road about 4 miles east of Jasper across from the U.B. Klem Furniture plant.

Authorities identified the deceased as 85-year old Jerome Knies of Celestine.

They say Knies had been operating a tractor in a field about 100 yards South of Schnellville Road when he fell from the equipment and was fatally injured.

Celestine First Responders, Memorial Hospital EMS and the Dubois County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene.
