The Indiana Department of Transportation says beginning next week bridge work is planned for US Highway 231 near Jasper.

INDOT says on or around next Monday August 7th, contractors will begin restricting the southbound lane of the Highway 231 Bridge spanning Hunley Creek.

They say weather permitting workers will perform a bridge deck overlay at that location. Restrictions will be in place around the clock with traffic being controlled by temporary signals.

INDOT says this is a continuation of a contract currently in operation to resurface a bridge about a mile north of this location.

Wide loads over 13 feet should find an alternate route. Work is expected to last until mid-October. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

Motorists can learn about highway work zones and other traffic alerts at indot.carsprogram.org, call 800-261-ROAD (7623) or 511 from a mobile phone.
