Authorities say a Jasper man was operating his pickup while under the influence of drugs when he allegedly sideswiped another vehicle between Jasper and Huntingburg late Thursday afternoon.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says at around a quarter after 5 pm yesterday 34-year old Jeremy Thomas of Jasper was traveling south on US 231 in the bottoms when deputies say his pickup went left of center and sideswiped a northbound passenger car driven by 56-year old Donna Fuhrman also of Jasper.

During an investigation of the crash the sheriff department’s K-9 unit was called to the scene and gave a positive indication of the presence of drugs on Thomas’ truck.

Deputies estimated damage between the two vehicles at 25-hundred dollars.

Fuhrman complained of pain to her back and neck. She was taken to Memorial Hospital in Jasper for treatment. Thomas was not injured but he too was sent to Memorial for a blood test that came back positive for drugs.

Thomas was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center in Jasper on a Level 6 Felony count of Operating While on a Controlled Substance causing injury and a Class Misdemeanor count of Possession of Paraphernalia.
