A Martin County man was jailed for impaired driving after his vehicle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming SUV Wednesday morning on Jasper’s Southside.

Jasper Police say at about a quarter till 9 AM yesterday a compact vehicle driven by 40-year old Darren Lannan of Loogootee was Northbound on U.S. 231 approaching HRJ lane in front of Sternberg Chrysler while an SUV driven by 35-year old Kenneth Speed of Huntingburg was headed south.

Lannon told police that the glare of the sun caused him to travel left of center while speed told authorities he had noticed Lannon crossing the center and attempted to avoid his oncoming vehicle.

The vehicles did collide however with the impact causing Lannon’s car to spin 180 degrees before coming to rest on the southbound shoulder.

Speed’s SUV traveled off of the west side of the roadway before coming to rest in a grass lot.

Neither Lannon nor speed were injured in the crash, however a passenger in Lannon’s vehicle, 28-year old Mikilauna Walsh of Huntingburg complained of chest pain and was taken by ambulance to memorial hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles were a total loss.

Police say a blood test of Lannon’s blood proved positive for marijuana and ecstasy. He was taken to and booked into the Dubois County Security Center.
