At 3:30 PM Monday, 33-year-old Eric Gootee was driving a 2008 Kenworth truck eastbound on US 50 near Rama Dye Road (two miles west of Shoals) when a large tree on the south side of the highway fell across the roadway and into the path of Gootee’s truck.  The tree hit the truck in the windshield and passenger compartment, impacting Gootee.  Gootee was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Martin County Coroner.
