Saint Meinrad Archabbey Library Gallery, St. Meinrad, IN, is hosting an exhibit of oil paintings by Abby Laux. The show will run from February 22 through March 29.

Laux, of Celestine, IN, is both an art educator and studio artist. After graduating from Indiana University, she taught art in public schools, hosted workshops and gave private lessons. Since receiving a master’s in fine arts from Northwestern State University in 2012, she has increasingly focused on her own work.

In 2014, she received the Eli Lilly Teacher Creativity Grant, enabling her to travel to Europe to visit art museums and to explore a variety of landscapes through sketching and photography.

Laux’s work is both representational and expressionist. Her paintings record her responses to an experienced environment, whether it is from her rural Indiana home or her travels to national parks. Inspired by nature, her work explores a connection to it that she feels is missing in society today.

Laux strives “to find a balance between depicting space in a landscape and creating beautiful gestures in paint.” Her art is not meant to be an imitation of nature, but a revealing of forms as she interprets them.

For library hours, call (812) 357-6401 or (800) 987-7311, or visit the Archabbey Library’s website: www.saintmeinrad.edu/library/hours/.

The exhibit is free and open to the public. Those wishing to view the exhibit may want to arrive at least 30 minutes before closing time.
