Mary Jo Uebelhor, age 84, of Jasper, passed away at 2:13 a.m., on Saturday, February 17, 2018, in the emergency room of Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper.

She was born April 8, 1933, in Ferdinand, Indiana to Dr. H.g. and Frances (McLaughlin) Backer; and married Paul A. Uebelhor on February 8, 1958, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church in Ferdinand.  Mary Jo was a registered nurse and homemaker.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and Dubois County Right to Life; was an avid reader and cross-stitcher; and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Uebelhor, who passed away on October 11, 1997; and six siblings, John Backer, Henry “Hank” Backer, David Backer, Lawrence Backer, Patrick Backer and Susan Hasenour.

Mary Jo is survived by five children, Julie (Tom) Buechler of Jasper, Tony (Shelley) Uebelhor of Jasper, Chris (Rachel) Uebelhor of Jasper, Laura (Kelly) Roggenkamp of Georgetown, and Shaun (Hollianne) Uebelhor of Encinitas, California; five siblings, Dr. George “Pete” Backer of La Porte, Sr. Phyllis Backer M.M.S. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Margaret Backer of Ferdinand, Dr. Thomas Backer of Erlanger, Kentucky, and Dr. Joseph Backer of McLean, Virginia; and by thirteen grandchildren.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial for Mary Jo Uebelhor will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.  The funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Crispine Adongo.

Friends may call for visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 9:00-11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, the day of the funeral.  Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.  All visitation will be held at the church the morning of the funeral.  Memorial contributions can be made to Dubois County Right to Life, Holy Trinity Catholic School, or Community C.H.E.W.  Condolences may be shared with the family online at:  www.nassandson.com
